Cross River State Partners with FG to Boost Livestock Export

The Cross River State Government has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to boost livestock production and export in the state. This collaboration was announced during the commissioning of Nigeria’s first Livestock Control Post and Guarantee Facility at Mfum in Ikom Local Government Area.

Governor Bassey Otu, represented by Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, expressed the state's readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to unlock opportunities in livestock production.

The Obudu Ranch is being developed into a world-class destination for agriculture and tourism, with a cargo airport near the ranch nearing 85% completion, expected to begin operations in December 2026. Regular flights from Abuja and Lagos to the Obudu airport corridor are set to commence in the first quarter of 2027, facilitating livestock and agricultural exports.

Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, emphasized the importance of the Mfum facility in protecting Nigeria’s livestock industry and announced plans for a modern abattoir ecosystem in Cross River, which could create approximately 10,000 jobs.
