FG and Kano State Collaborate for Livestock Transformation

The Federal Government of Nigeria and Kano State are partnering to accelerate the transformation of the livestock sector. On July 3, 2026, Murtala Sule Garo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in receiving Federal Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, during a three-day working visit.

The visit emphasized the establishment of the Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development, which has initiated a statewide vaccination campaign against major livestock diseases and deployed a livestock information management system. The partnership aims to empower 5,000 women in poultry production, support 2,000 youth in livestock enterprises, and benefit 10,000 women in small ruminant production.

The Federal Minister commended Kano State's commitment to livestock development, highlighting the sector's potential for economic growth and job creation. The collaboration also focuses on modernizing livestock production and enhancing the value chain, with a vision to position Nigeria as a leading producer of hides and skins in Africa.
