CSO Sues Umahi, IGP Over Nurse Mari Habila's Death

Kwechiri Unity Forum, a civil society organization, has initiated legal action against David Umahi, the Minister of Works, and Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, along with Tanko Habila, the father of the deceased nurse Mari Habila. The lawsuit was filed on July 17 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Mari Habila, a female nurse, was reportedly brought dead to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Uburu, Ebonyi State, on June 27. The civil society group is requesting the court to compel the Inspector General of Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Habila's death and to conduct a formal autopsy.

They argue that the investigation should be impartial, regardless of the status of individuals involved. The group is also seeking an interim injunction to prevent the release, burial, or cremation of Habila's body until the investigation is concluded, and to ensure the preservation of evidence related to her death.
