CSOs Criticize Olatunji Disu's Appointment as IGP

Civil society organizations (CSOs) have expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu's appointment of Olatunji Disu as the new Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Nigeria. This criticism follows the announcement made by Tinubu's spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, regarding Disu's appointment, which comes after the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

The CSOs, led by VLC chairman Dr. Ibrahim Batur and secretary Comrade Bello Roba, argue that Disu's impending retirement in April 2026 raises significant concerns about the stability of the police leadership.

Disu, born on April 13, 1966, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 60 shortly after his appointment, potentially leading to a leadership change within weeks. This situation mirrors controversies from Egbetokun's tenure and could trigger a mass reshuffle affecting 16 Assistant Inspectors General and nine Deputy Inspectors General.

The CSOs warn that such rapid changes could destabilize the police force and undermine public confidence in its leadership.
