Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector General

On Monday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to discuss the formal appointment of Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police. This meeting followed the resignation of the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the previous week.

Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to the president, confirmed that the meeting was held to affirm Disu's nomination. The council's session began at noon and was conducted behind closed doors.

President Tinubu is expected to convene another meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of Disu as the substantive Inspector General of Police, with the name set to be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation. The meeting was attended by several high-profile officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, along with statutory members of the council.
