CSOs Call for Real-Time Election Result Transmission Ahead of 2027 Polls

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria are urging for the real-time transmission of election results to protect the integrity of the 2027 elections. Concerns were raised during a press conference held in Abuja at the Continent Hotel Mondai regarding the Senate's rejection of electronic transmission, which could impact the credibility of the electoral process.

The Senate's amendments to the Electoral Act 2022 have significant implications for the upcoming elections, creating legal uncertainties and potentially compromising the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) ability to conduct free and fair elections. CSOs have given the National Assembly a two-week ultimatum to conclude the amendment process and transmit the final bill to the President for approval.

Failure to do so could lead to delays and legal uncertainties that may affect the preparation for the 2027 elections. INEC is urged to issue an election timetable in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 to avoid any further delays.
