CSOs Urge Tinubu to Investigate Abuja Land Invasion

A coalition of civil society organizations has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in an alleged military-backed land invasion in Abuja involving Defence Properties Ltd. The coalition, led by Prof.

Barika Domin Saro Laka of the Mighty One Empowerment Foundation, claims that Defence Properties Ltd unlawfully entered a disputed parcel of land, which is currently subject to court proceedings regarding ownership. The coalition alleges that personnel from Defence Properties Ltd moved equipment onto the land without sufficient due diligence, despite ongoing legal disputes.

They have urged the federal government to investigate the circumstances surrounding these actions and to ensure that military personnel do not engage in disputes over private property until the matter is resolved in court. The coalition has also advised the public and potential investors to exercise caution regarding transactions related to the disputed property.

The issue involves claims of ownership by individuals connected to a deceased trustee, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly investigating aspects of the dispute.
