Nigeria Customs Service Intercepts Two Live Pangolins

On March 12, 2026, the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Aminu Sule, intercepted two live pangolins that were being illegally transported along the Kano-Jigawa axis. This interception was part of a sustained surveillance effort across major transit corridors in Zone B, which includes Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The operation was conducted during a routine stop and search, where the pangolins were found concealed in a vehicle. The animals, weighing approximately 15 kilograms, were secured in appropriate cages for their safety and subsequently transported to the Zone B headquarters in Kaduna for further examination.

Sule emphasized that this seizure sends a clear message that Zone B will not serve as a transit point for wildlife trafficking and reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service's commitment to enforcing environmental laws to protect endangered species.
