NESREA Reports Increased Awareness in Wildlife Conservation

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), led by Prof. Innoc Barikor, announced the receipt of pangolins in Kano and Akwa Ibom, reflecting an increase in public awareness and support for wildlife conservation in Nigeria.

This information was disclosed in a press statement released on Tuesday by Nwamaka Ejiofor in Abuja. Local hunter Imo Etim, who caught two pangolins in a trap intended for grass cutters, promptly notified Prof.

Olajumok Morenikeji of the Pangolin Conservation Guild Nigeria (PCGN). Following this, NESREA officials, including state coordinator Mfon Nkanang, took custody of the pangolins, which were subsequently handed over to the National Park Service.

This incident underscores the importance of community involvement in wildlife conservation efforts and the role of local hunters in reporting wildlife captures to relevant authorities.
