Nigeria Customs Service Auctions Seized PMS Worth N32.2m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), through Operation Whirlwind, intercepted 22,175 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) allegedly being moved for illegal cross-border exportation. The seized products, consisting of 887 jerrycans of 25 litres each and five means of conveyance, were valued at N32.175 million.
The operation took place across identified smuggling flashpoints in the Lagos-Ogun axis, including Imeko, Ilara, Ilaro, Idiroko, and Seme-Badagry. A public auction of the seized PMS was conducted at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos, following the directive of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Deputy Comptroller Lucky Aliyu emphasized the NCS's commitment to protecting the nation's economy and energy resources through intelligence-driven operations. He noted that Operation Whirlwind was specifically established to combat the illegal movement and smuggling of petroleum products, ensuring that products meant for domestic consumption are not unlawfully diverted across borders.
