Customs Service Collaborates with Ogun Rulers on Security

On April 22, 2026, the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, raised concerns regarding border threats and initiated a collaboration with traditional rulers in Ogun State. This effort is part of a broader strategy to curb smuggling and block the inflow of dangerous items.

Afeni visited the paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehind Olugbenl, emphasizing the importance of local collaboration to tackle cross-border crime. The Customs Service aims to implement round-the-clock monitoring, tighten inspection procedures, and establish communication channels with community leaders to boost intelligence gathering.

Traditional rulers, including Oba Adekola Oj Oladokun and Oba Mathew Akindele, are encouraged to sensitize residents, particularly youth, against illegal activities. Afeni reiterated the Customs Service's commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against smuggling, especially concerning small arms, light weapons, and illicit drugs.
