Customs Seize 248,500 Tramadol Tablets in Yobe State

The Nigeria Customs Service intercepted 248,500 tablets of tramadol hydrochloride (250mg), valued at N273.35 million, in Yobe State. Abdullahi Ka Ila, the Controller of the Federal Operations Unit Zone D, disclosed this during a press briefing.

The seizure was a result of meticulous intelligence gathering and proactive surveillance in collaboration with security agencies. The operation targeted a suspected movement of a large consignment of tramadol through covert routes in Gumsi Village, Nguru Local Government Area.

Upon sighting the Customs patrol vehicle, the suspects fled into the bush. This operation is believed to disrupt a major syndicate involved in the illicit tramadol trade, which is linked to drug abuse among vulnerable groups, particularly youth and students.

Ka Ila emphasized the importance of this seizure in curbing drug abuse and protecting legitimate pharmaceutical businesses from unfair competition. The Nigeria Customs Service continues to strengthen collaboration with national drug law enforcement agencies and encourages community reporting of suspicious activities.
