Nigeria's Cement Prices Surge Amid Regulatory Scrutiny

The price of cement in Nigeria has escalated, with a 50kg bag now priced between ₦12,000 and ₦15,000, up from below ₦10,000 earlier in 2026. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) conducted a three-month investigation revealing that prices had risen from about ₦9,300-₦9,700 in January to ₦10,500-₦13,000 by mid-year, reaching ₦13,000-₦15,000 in some areas by July.

A September market survey indicated prices around ₦12,000 for Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, Mangal Cement, and Lafarge/HBM Cement, although actual prices vary by location and dealer. In contrast, Ghana's cement prices for a 50kg bag range from GH₵101-118, with an equivalent of approximately ₦12,962 based on the August 18, 2026 exchange rate.

This disparity highlights the complexities of Nigeria's cement market, which is not reliant on imports and has significant domestic production capacity.
