Petrol Prices Surge in Abuja Following Refinery Adjustments

Petrol prices have risen across several filling stations in Abuja due to a recent adjustment in the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) ex-gantry price by Dangote Refinery. A market survey conducted on Saturday, August 22, 2026, revealed that motorists are now paying between ₦1,230 and ₦1,299 per litre.

MRS filling stations, supported by Dangote Refinery, increased their prices from ₦1,210 to ₦1,230 per litre, following directives from the company’s headquarters. Other retailers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Rainoil, adjusted their prices to between ₦1,250 and ₦1,299 per litre.

This adjustment follows Dangote Refinery's decision on Friday, August 21, 2026, to raise its petrol ex-gantry price to ₦1,185 per litre from ₦1,165. The increase comes amid rising international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $94 per barrel, and marks a reversal of recent price reductions that had provided some relief to motorists.
