Dangote Refinery Becomes Europe's Top Jet-Fuel Supplier

Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, has significantly increased its fuel exports, particularly jet fuel, as global supply disruptions reshape the energy market. The refinery processed over 700,000 barrels per day during a performance test in June, although this does not reflect consistent operational levels.

Fuel exports rose from 168,000 barrels per day in February to 353,000 barrels per day in April, before declining to 285,000 barrels per day in May. In June, Dangote supplied over 466,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, surpassing the United States as the region's largest external supplier.

In July, the refinery delivered more than 400,000 tonnes, accounting for about 20% of Europe's jet-fuel imports. CEO David Bird stated that the refinery was Europe's largest jet-fuel supplier in both June and July.

This surge in exports comes as conflicts in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine war disrupt major petroleum supply routes, prompting countries to seek alternative sources.
