Nigeria's Data Localization to Boost Digital Economy Growth

The CEO of Galaxy Backbone stated that data localization in Nigeria is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the country's position in the digital economy. This move is expected to strengthen digital sovereignty, improve regulatory oversight, and control critical infrastructure.

The CEO highlighted that local hosting will drive demand for data centers, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity services, and digital skills, leading to increased investment and job creation. Galaxy Backbone has established Uptime Certified Tier III and Tier IV data centers and is in the process of acquiring a third data center in Lagos.

The organization aims to provide secure and reliable digital infrastructure to support Nigeria's financial services industry in complying with regulatory requirements. The CEO noted that while Nigeria has made significant progress in developing modern data centers, continuous expansion and modernization of digital infrastructure are essential to meet evolving demands driven by fintech innovation and government digitization.
