Nigeria Election Data Observatory Consortium launched for 2027

The Nigeria Election Data Observatory (NEDO) Consortium was launched in Abuja by Dataphyte, Yiaga Africa, BudgIT, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), and DEAN Initiative ahead of the 2027 general elections. This initiative aims to create a shared election observation, data aggregation, and information-sharing platform.
Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Director of the National Endowment for Democracy, stated that the NEDO initiative seeks to address the fragmentation in election observation and improve civic data management. The 2023 general elections revealed the limitations of separate networks and systems, particularly with issues related to the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
Public confidence in the electoral process remains low, with only 34 percent of respondents in Yiaga Africa’s September 2026 National Voting Intentions Survey expressing trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The consortium aims to provide a coordinated system for credible electoral information, with Abdulahi Adebayo from Dataphyte explaining that the application will create a shared evidence repository for analysis and public communication.
