Dataphyte and Partners Launch Election Monitoring Platform

A consortium of Civil Society Organisations has launched the Nigeria Election Data Observatory (NEDO) to monitor election results and related activities for the 2027 elections. The consortium includes Dataphyte Foundation, Yiaga Africa, BudgIT Foundation, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), and DEAN Initiative.

Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Director of Dataphyte Foundation, stated that NEDO aims to bridge fragmentation in election observation and civic data management. The platform employs automated data scraping technology and AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to convert election result-sheet images from the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) into machine-readable data.

This information will be shared across interactive platforms operated by consortium partners. The initiative also leverages a network of election observers, including YIAGA Africa’s Watching The Vote (WTV) network, to provide real-time information on electoral incidents.

Abdulahi Adebayo, Programme Manager at Dataphyte Foundation, noted that the application will create a shared evidence repository for analysis and reporting, addressing issues of misinformation and result discrepancies.
