David Mark Challenges INEC's De-recognition of ADC Leadership

David Mark, the former Senate President and current leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has initiated legal proceedings in the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) recent decision to de-recognize his leadership of the party. This legal action follows INEC's withdrawal of recognition of Mark's leadership structure, which has intensified political tensions within the party.

Mark's legal team, led by Sulaiman Usman, filed the motion on April 7, 2023, seeking a mandatory injunction to set aside INEC's decision and restore his name as the national chairman of the ADC on the commission's official portal. The court previously denied a request for an injunction against INEC's actions, stating that the matter was not justiciable.

Mark's leadership is under contention, with claims that the ADC's internal affairs have been mismanaged, leading to a vacuum in leadership. The case is set against a backdrop of ongoing disputes regarding the party's governance and structure.
