Accord Party Celebrates Court Ruling as Democratic Victory

The Accord Party has celebrated the Court of Appeal's decision that nullified a Federal High Court ruling which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-register the party along with four others. In a statement on Wednesday, the party's National Chairman, Barr Maxwell Mgbudem, described the appellate court's ruling as a significant victory for democracy, the rule of law, and due process.

Accord asserted that the de-registration suit lacked merit and was politically motivated, aimed at preventing Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, from participating in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15. The party emphasized that it had met all constitutional and legal requirements for registration and had previously secured a stay of proceedings on May 22, 2026, and a stay of execution on June 16.

Accord called for support from Nigerians to build a strong and inclusive democratic nation, while also condemning the political motivations behind the legal challenge.
