Pressure on Kalu to Declare 2027 Governorship Intent

Pressure is intensifying on Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to publicly declare his ambition for the 2027 governorship race in Abia State. Labour Party chieftain Peter Azubuike has openly challenged Kalu, urging him to either announce his intentions or step aside.

Azubuike criticized Kalu's continued silence amid rising speculation regarding his interest in the governorship seat, emphasizing that the people of Abia deserve clarity rather than uncertainty. He pointed out that the electorate has already made their choice clear, supporting the current governor, Alex Otti, who received an overwhelming 95 percent mandate.

Azubuike warned that the political climate in Abia is shifting, with voters becoming more aware and less influenced by traditional political tactics. He expressed concern over subtle political pressure being applied to Kalu and highlighted that the current administration has built trust through visible results.
