Nigeria's Defence Minister Supports Indigenous Manufacturing

On a recent visit to a Nigerian drone production facility in Abuja, Defence Minister Bello Matawalle reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to enhancing indigenous defense manufacturing. During his tour of the Briech UAV manufacturing plant located in Kuje, Matawalle pledged to prioritize local companies in the procurement process, stating that the government recognizes the necessity of allowing these companies to grow.

He urged that ministries and agencies should first determine if Nigerian companies can provide the required services and products before looking abroad. Matawalle emphasized the importance of expanding the production of arms and ammunition, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda to reduce Nigeria's dependence on foreign military hardware.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the facility's operations, which showcased various locally manufactured models, including the Damisa combat drone and reconnaissance drones, all produced entirely by Nigerian staff. He assured continued government support for indigenous defense manufacturing.
