Akpabio Urges Global Parliamentarians to Defend Peace

On Thursday, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, called on parliamentarians worldwide to rise and defend peace, justice, and humanity during his address at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Speaking at the assembly themed "Nurturing Hope: Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations," Akpabio emphasized the urgency of addressing global tensions and conflicts that are testing the resilience of nations and institutions.

He highlighted Nigeria's experience as a conflict nation and the importance of legislative roles in fostering peace. Akpabio warned that no region is immune to instability, citing ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

He called for a global shift from war to development, stressing the human costs of conflict that extend beyond casualty figures to include broken families and devastated communities. He invoked Martin Luther King Jr.'s reminder of humanity's shared destiny, urging collective action among nations.
