Akpabio Advocates for Global Shift from War to Development

Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, called for an urgent global shift from war to development during his address at the 152nd assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). He highlighted the escalating conflicts worldwide and the need for stronger roles for the United Nations in promoting peace, justice, and human rights.

Akpabio emphasized that the current wave of conflicts underscores a deeper crisis in leadership and urged nations to redirect resources from destructive tendencies towards human advancement and development. He noted that the gathering took place against a backdrop of increasing global instability, particularly in regions like the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

Akpabio stressed that no part of the world is immune to instability and called for collective commitment to multilateral democratic values as essential tools to address global crises. He warned that the true impact of conflict extends beyond casualty figures, leaving behind shattered families and displaced communities.
