Chief Onuesoke Warns of Wood Scarcity in Niger Delta Due to Deforestation

Chief Sunny Onuesoke, an environmental advocate, issued a warning about the depletion of forests in the Niger Delta region, emphasizing the urgent need to shift away from wood-based roofing materials to curb deforestation. Nigeria is losing a significant portion of its forests annually, with the Niger Delta experiencing a high rate of deforestation.

Onuesoke highlighted the potential consequences of continued deforestation, such as unaffordable timber for construction, ecosystem collapse, and threats to fish farms. He called for government intervention, including banning illegal logging and promoting sustainable alternatives.
