Delta Governor Advocates National Conference for Unity

During a lecture at the Yoruba Tennis Club in Lagos on Wednesday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori advocated for the establishment of a periodic national conference aimed at strengthening national unity in Nigeria. He argued that inclusive governance is essential for addressing the urgent situations faced by the country, particularly in light of ethnic, religious, and resource tensions.

Oborevwori proposed a formalized approach to bring together federal and state actors, traditional rulers, civil society, youth, women's groups, and private sector leaders to systematically review and recalibrate national priorities. He outlined a framework to assess inclusive governance and emphasized the importance of embedding dialogue in governance rather than merely reacting to instability.

The governor highlighted Delta State's experiences in promoting equitable development and called for a collective effort to build a shared national consciousness. He also urged the media and creative industries to promote national cohesion without propaganda, warning against narratives that deepen divisions.
