Delta State Summit Aims to Boost Local, Foreign Investment

The Delta State Government held a 3-day Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, focusing on attracting local and foreign investments to reduce reliance on federal allocations. The summit, themed “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potential,” featured policymakers, business investors, and development partners.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori opened the event, stating that Delta is a viable destination for all scales of investors. Dr. Kingsley Emu, Chairman of the Summit Organizing Committee and Secretary to the State Government, reported that 25 prospective investors from Brazil and several from China expressed interest in investing in Delta.
He highlighted the establishment of a special economic zone with affordable power, four seaports, two airports, and business-friendly policies. Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, urged local businesses to become active investors.
Keynote speaker Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the WTO, advised states to diversify their economies and improve competitiveness. Guest speaker Prof. Patrick Lumumba emphasized the importance of governance and leadership in driving investment.
