Nigerian Defence Minister Urges Citizens to Deny Bandits Safe Havens

Nigerian Defence Minister Gen. Christoph Musa, retired, has called on Nigerians to deny bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists safe havens, stressing the crucial role of public cooperation in ending the country's insecurity.

Speaking at the seventh Nigeria New Award Ceremony in Abuja, he warned that these criminal groups thrive when communities provide shelter, food, or remain silent. Gen.

Musa highlighted the complexities of modern asymmetrical warfare, emphasizing that the enemy is often within, making detection and response challenging for security agencies. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities promptly, stating that swift action would be taken.

Gen. Musa thanked Nigerians for their support and appealed for continued cooperation to restore peace in the country.

He disclosed that Nigeria recently signed a security relations agreement with Turkey to enhance peace and stability. The award ceremony also recognized Abubakar Sani for his outstanding contributions to national development.

The award aims to encourage recipients in their respective fields without financial conditions attached. Nigeria continues to battle insecurity driven by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and insurgency, particularly in the northern regions.
