Desmond Elliott's re-election bid for the Lagos State House of Assembly has sparked a crisis within the APC in Surulere. Allegations have emerged regarding influential party leaders attempting to impose preferred candidates ahead of the primaries, leading to heightened tensions among party members.

Stakeholders have accused the party of undermining internal democracy, claiming that the process is already favoring female aspirants. Sharif Balogun, the chairman of Surulere Local Government, has reportedly declared support for certain aspirants and instructed ward chairmen to mobilize for them.

Critics question Elliott's performance and argue that he should not be denied opportunities similar to those afforded to Femi Gbajabiamila, a former speaker of the House of Representatives. Elliott has sponsored 11 motions and co-sponsored 42 motions, participating in the passage of 32 bills, as documented in a 198-page compendium detailing his legislative activities.
