Nigeria Faces High Fuel Costs Despite Price Decrease

In November 2025, Nigeria experienced a significant decrease in fuel prices, yet the average retail cost of petrol and diesel remains high, exceeding N1,000 per liter nationwide. The Nation Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that despite some fluctuations, prices remained elevated, with disparities across regions.

While the average price slightly declined from the previous year, the prices in some states exceeded N1,200 per liter. This situation reflects logistical challenges, security issues, and supply constraints, leading to higher consumer prices, especially in the northern states.

Southern states, particularly the South West, had comparatively lower average prices. The data indicates ongoing pressure on prices in the downstream market.
