Atiku Abubakar and Dele Momodu Meet in Abuja

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar met with Dele Momodu at Momodu's residence in Abuja to discuss central issues affecting Nigeria and political strategies. This meeting is significant as Atiku Abubakar is a presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections.

The discussions come after the ADC's primary concluded, and Atiku is now focused on selecting a running mate. The search for a vice presidential candidate is unfolding during a period of reorganization within Nigeria's opposition space, which has seen splits and separations among factions.

Following the collapse of talks to form a united front against President Bola Tinubu, there is a need for strategic alliances. Analysts indicate that Atiku is looking towards southern geopolitical zones, particularly the South East, South South, and South West, to balance the ticket.

In the 2019 elections, Atiku selected Peter Obi as his running mate, and in 2023, he chose former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
