FG and ASUU Reach Resolution on 2009 Agreement Dispute, Salary Increases and Benefits Included

The Federal Government and ASUU have resolved their dispute over the 2009 agreement, finalizing a new deal effective January 1, 2026. The agreement includes a 40% salary increase for lecturers, enhanced pension benefits, and a new fund framework for public universities.

ASUU emphasized improving the welfare of academic staff and enhancing funding for universities. The deal also focuses on strengthening university autonomy, academic freedom, and research support.

ASUU called on the government to ensure prompt and faithful implementation to stabilize the tertiary education sector in Nigeria.
