DHQ Reiterates No Negotiation with Terrorists Policy

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Nigeria has reaffirmed its position against negotiating with terrorists, bandits, or any criminal groups, and opposes the payment of ransom to such entities. Major General Samaila Uba, the spokesperson for the Nigerian military, stated that the military's primary responsibility is to conduct kinetic operations aimed at neutralizing all terrorists and individuals who threaten Nigerian citizens.

He emphasized that while the military's focus is on kinetic operations, they also support non-kinetic actions in collaboration with other stakeholders, without compromising their stance on negotiations or ransom payments. Additionally, General Uba addressed the planned withdrawal of approximately 200 US military personnel, clarifying that this should not be seen as a deterioration of the Nigeria–United States security partnership, which remains strong and mutually beneficial.

He noted that the deployment of US personnel is linked to specific operational objectives in counter-terrorism.
