DIAN Launches Roadmap to Boost Nigeria's Defense Industry

The Defence Industries Association of Nigeria (DIAN) has launched a strategic roadmap to end Nigeria's over-reliance on foreign defense equipment and increase local production of arms, ammunition, and military hardware. This initiative was unveiled during the association's general meeting in Abuja, where measures to strengthen indigenous defense manufacturing capacity were outlined.

Engr Kola Balogun, the General Secretary of DIAN, emphasized that the full implementation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act 2023 is crucial for achieving these objectives. The act provides a framework for local manufacturing and technology transfer, aiming to reduce dependence on imports and conserve foreign exchange while creating jobs.

DIAN also admitted 18 new members, reflecting growing investor confidence in Nigeria's defense sector. The association identified weak coordination within the defense industry ecosystem as a major challenge and called for stronger institutional alignment to implement effective policies.

Additionally, DIAN announced the dissolution of its pioneer executive trustees, with fresh elections scheduled for July 2026.
