Nigerian Arms Manufacturers Urge FG to Boost Local Production

Local arms manufacturers in Nigeria have requested the federal government to decrease dependence on foreign military equipment. This appeal was made during a strategic meeting, where they emphasized the need for the full implementation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act 2023.

The act aims to accelerate the demand for indigenous defense products and enhance local manufacturing capabilities. Engr.

Kola Balogun, the General Secretary of the association, disclosed that 18 new members were admitted, indicating growing investor confidence in Nigeria's defense industry. The association outlined the development of coordinated strategies to deepen synergies among stakeholders and advised the government on policies to cut reliance on imported military hardware.

They also highlighted the need for stronger institutional alignment and coordination within the defense industry ecosystem to tackle existing bottlenecks.
