Nigeria to Boost Digital Infrastructure by 2027, Minister Bosun Tijani Reveals Plans

Nigeria's Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced plans to revitalize Nigeria's digital infrastructure by 2027 through substantial investments in expanding fiber optic networks, satellite communications, and rural towers. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity across the country, benefiting around 20 million currently unconnected Nigerians.

Tijani highlighted ongoing investments in a 90,000-kilometer fiber optic network and 3,700 additional rural towers. The World Bank's Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghi, emphasized the importance of digital inclusion, reliable electricity, and broadband infrastructure for Nigeria's economic development.

Additionally, Ibahima Guimba Saidou, the Chief Executive Officer of Partnership for Digital Access Africa, stressed the need for Nigeria to leverage digital services for inclusive growth. The government also launched a 3 million technical talent program to build Nigeria's digital workforce and enhance digital skills development.
