Diri Advocates Six-Year Single Term for Nigerian Leaders

Senator Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, has proposed a six-year single term for both the presidency and governorship, arguing that the current four-year term is inadequate for leaders to effectively assess their performance and govern. Diri made this statement while receiving a courtesy visit from the Citi Boi Movement (CBM), led by its Director General, Mr.

Oluwatosin Shoga, on Tuesday. He expressed his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Diri explained that the National Assembly is working to push for this six-year tenure to ensure that leaders can fully concentrate on governance and development without the distractions associated with re-election campaigns. He emphasized the importance of democracy and the need for constructive dialogue rather than insults towards elders in governance.

Mr. Oluwatosin Shoga highlighted the CBM's commitment to mobilizing and empowering young Nigerians to actively participate in the development of the country.
