DisCos Generate N207bn in December, Face Revenue Shortfall

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria generated N207.49 billion from power bills in December, against a total billed amount of N258.66 billion, leading to a revenue shortfall of N51.17 billion. The report indicates that the collection efficiency across the 11 DisCos was 80.22%.

The average revenue realized per kilowatt hour was N98.97, compared to the allowed average tariff of N124.30 per kilowatt hour, resulting in a revenue recovery efficiency of 79.62%. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest revenue collection of N38.11 billion from a billed amount of N46.68 billion, achieving an efficiency of 81.64%.

Other companies like Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company also showed significant collection efficiencies of 83.38% and 91.79%, respectively. However, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company did not provide data due to ongoing upgrades to its billing system.
