DisCos Report N8bn Revenue Loss in February 2026

In February 2026, Nigerian electricity distribution companies (DisCos) reported a revenue loss of N8 billion, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Despite a 17.64% increase in total energy received, amounting to N277.09 billion compared to January's N235.53 billion, the total revenue collected fell to N196.68 billion, a 3.94% decline from January.

The report indicated an improvement in billing efficiency, rising to 87.44%, reflecting a 7.72 percentage point increase from the previous month. However, the actual bill collection dropped by 9.66% from January's estimated N268.08 billion.

The report also noted that while Eko, Kano, and Abuja DisCos achieved high billing efficiencies, Yola and Kaduna DisCos recorded the lowest. The overall revenue recovery efficiency rose to 80.67%, an 11.51 percentage point increase month-on-month.

The NERC emphasized that despite these improvements, significant gaps remain in revenue realization, necessitating better meter coverage, enforcement against energy theft, and tariff alignment.
