NERC Reports 241,590 Customers Metered in Two Months

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) disclosed that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) metered a total of 241,590 customers in January and February 2023. The report indicated that 119,792 customers were metered in January, while 121,798 were metered in February, resulting in metering rates of 57.93% and 58.57%, respectively.

The cumulative total number of active electricity customers increased from 12.2 million in January to 12.3 million in February. The report highlighted improvements in metering rates, particularly for Port Harcourt DisCo, which recorded rates of 65.47% in January and 66.36% in February.

Eko and Ikeja DisCos maintained top performance with metering rates above 84%. However, some DisCos, including Kaduna, Kano, and Yola, continued to face challenges in metering new customers, necessitating an accelerated rollout to close the metering gap.
