DisCos Earn N2.33tn in 2025 Amid Power Supply Issues

In 2025, Nigeria's electricity distribution companies (DisCos) recorded a combined revenue of N2.33 trillion, a notable increase from N1.8 trillion in 2024, representing a 29% growth. Despite persistent consumer complaints regarding poor service delivery and frequent power outages, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that the DisCos collected N553.63 billion in the first quarter of 2025, with revenues slightly increasing to N564.71 billion in the second quarter.

Monthly revenue data indicated fluctuations, with July 2025 revenues at N193.96 billion, a slight decline from August's N191.11 billion, before rebounding to N196.26 billion in September. The highest revenue was recorded in October at N210 billion.

The report highlighted that the Eko Electricity Distribution Company showed the strongest revenue recovery at 99.45%. Critics argue that despite the revenue increase, tariff hikes have not led to significant improvements in electricity supply, as consumers continue to experience erratic service.
