Reports circulated online alleging that his wife had moved to the United States to study nursing and requested a divorce after 15 years of Bakassi supporting her education from Nigeria.

In a video shared on his social media, Bakassi condemned the rumors as fake news, asserting that they disrespected him and his family. He noted that the false reports led to numerous calls from friends, family, and fans worldwide seeking clarification about his marital status.

Bakassi firmly stated that he and his wife are still together and highlighted the importance of his family in his life, mentioning that they recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. He expressed a strong desire for their relationship to remain intact, stating, "God forbid anything will ever happen to us.".
