Doctors Strike at FMC Owo Over Colleague's Assault

Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owo and its Akure annex in Ondo State have commenced a strike in response to an assault on a colleague. The strike, initiated by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), follows an incident where the wife of a patient allegedly attacked a doctor on duty.

This assault prompted thugs to invade the hospital premises in search of the physician. The situation has left many patients stranded and has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of medical staff at FMC Owo.

In a statement signed by NARD President Dr. Adeola Oluwadamilola and General Secretary Dr.

Dare Aderemi, the association declared a 72-hour total strike starting from May 31, 2026, which will be reviewed based on the provision of adequate security at the hospital. This incident marks a recurring issue of violence against doctors at FMC Owo, with the association emphasizing the need for immediate action to ensure the safety of healthcare workers.
