Funso Doherty Announces Lagos Governorship Bid for 2027

Funso Doherty announced his candidacy for the Lagos State governorship election in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a meeting on Friday. This declaration was made in a video clip shared by the ADC Vanguard, which is a mobilization wing of the party.

Doherty emphasized the need for strong candidates in Lagos State and expressed confidence in the ADC's position as the main opposition party. His announcement comes shortly after he resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on March 29, 2024, citing a court ruling that nullified the PDP's 2025 convention and deepened factional divisions within the party.

Doherty criticized the PDP's leadership and its failure to support the people of Lagos State, asserting that the residents deserve better governance. He previously contested in the 2023 Lagos governorship election but defected to the ADC from the PDP.
