Funso Doherti Resigns from PDP, Joins African Democratic Congress

Funso Doherti, a former Lagos State governorship candidate, has officially resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and announced his membership in the African Democratic Congress. In his resignation letter, posted on Saturday, Doherti cited ongoing crises within the PDP, particularly a recent court ruling that nullified the party's 2025 convention, which has deepened internal divisions.

He expressed concerns that the party's leadership struggles could undermine its electoral processes and worsen issues such as poverty and insecurity in Nigeria. Doherti emphasized the need for a united opposition to effectively advocate for the welfare of ordinary citizens, particularly in Lagos State.

He believes that the current state of the PDP is unsustainable and that the people of Lagos deserve better governance. His departure from the PDP was partly driven by the belief that a unified opposition is crucial for Nigeria's fragile democracy.
