Édouard Mendy Retires from International Football

Édouard Mendy, the 34-year-old goalkeeper, announced his retirement from international football on Sunday, September 13, 2026, ending his tenure with the Senegal national football team, known as the Teranga Lions. Mendy made his debut for Senegal in November 2018 and quickly became the first-choice goalkeeper.

He was part of the squad that won Senegal's first Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022. His significant achievement came during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a crucial role in Senegal's victory over Egypt in the final, earning the AFCON Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

Mendy also represented Senegal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, starting all four matches as the team reached the Round of 16. He was included in Senegal's plans for the 2026 World Cup but suffered a knee injury during a match against Norway, which ruled him out of the final group game against Iraq.
