Edouard Mendy Retires from International Football

Edouard Mendy, the 34-year-old goalkeeper for Al-Ahli, has announced his retirement from international football, concluding an eight-year tenure with the Senegal national team, known as the Teranga Lions. He shared this decision via a video on his official Instagram account, expressing gratitude to Senegal.

Mendy's international career began in 2018 under coach Aliou Cissé, and he made 59 appearances, conceding 34 goals and achieving 31 clean sheets. Notably, he played a crucial role in Senegal's victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the team defeated Egypt to secure their first title.

Mendy was also part of the squad that reached the AFCON final in 2025, although the title was controversially stripped from Senegal after players left the pitch early. His international career included participation in the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, marking him as a key figure in a successful era for Senegalese football.
