Naegohyang Women’s FC Wins AFC Champions League Title

The Naegohyang Women’s FC, the first North Korean women's football team to visit South Korea, departed from Incheon International Airport on Sunday after achieving a historic victory in the AFC Women’s Champions League. The team, coached by Ri Yu Il, won the title with a 1-0 defeat of Tokyo Verdy Beleza in the final held at Suwon Stadium.

This trip was significant as it was the first delegation of North Korean athletes to visit South Korea in eight years. The players maintained a calm and disciplined demeanor during their airport passage, despite receiving congratulatory comments from supporters.

The prize money for the tournament, amounting to $1 million, is currently held due to international sanctions against North Korea related to its nuclear missile program, which complicates the financial aspects of the club's future participation in international matches.
