DR Congo Launches New Ebola Treatment Center in Beni

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has inaugurated a new Ebola treatment center in Beni, North Kivu Province, as part of efforts to strengthen its response to the latest outbreak of the deadly virus. The 20-bed facility, located at the general hospital, is designed to provide specialized treatment for Ebola patients and alleviate pressure on existing health facilities in the three provinces affected by the outbreak.

Health Minister Prisca Luanda Kamala announced that this center is the second standardized Ebola treatment center in the province, following the one in Katwa. The inauguration comes as Beni records its first Ebola survivor from the current outbreak, a female patient named Kavira Mukelu Charlin, who was discharged in late June after completing treatment.

Chief Medical Officer Michel Tosalisana urged residents to seek immediate medical attention, emphasizing that early diagnosis and treatment significantly improve survival chances. As of Sunday, health authorities reported 1,500 confirmed Ebola cases across the three affected provinces, including 506 deaths and 250 recoveries.
