DR Congo Accuses Nigeria of World Cup Qualification Attempt Through 'Back Door'

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has criticized Nigeria for allegedly trying to qualify for the World Cup through unconventional means. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) lodged a complaint with FIFA, claiming that DRC fielded nine ineligible players in a World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

DRC responded by accusing Nigeria of attempting to reach the World Cup through a 'back door' and emphasized the importance of dignity and fair play. The dispute centers on the interpretation and enforcement of domestic citizenship laws, with DRC claiming that their laws do not allow dual citizenship.

Despite the controversy, DRC defeated Nigeria in a penalty shootout to advance to the intercontinental playoff against Mexico.
